After their big win over the Colts, expect an upbeat coach Mike Tomlin at his weekly appearance before the media today at noon. Not only will he be talking about the win, he’ll also get the chance to comment on the signing of veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, first reported yesterday by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Valdes-Scantling was first reported headed to Pittsburgh last week, but delayed signing. Now he offers another target for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, with whom he played the first four of his eight NFL seasons in Green Bay. He was released by the 49ers last month after an injury.
Valdes-Scantling will initially sign with the Steelers’ practice squad and then be activated when they determine that he is ready to play, which could be as early as this week against the Chargers. To make room for him on the practice squad roster, the team released second-year defensive back Beanie Bishop.
Today is the NFL trade deadline. Teams have until 4 PM to make a deal.

The Steelers play the Chargers on Sunday night. LA lost All-Pro tackle Joe Alt for the season on Sunday with a recurrent high ankle sprain. He had surgery yesterday. The Charges are 4-0 with him, 2-3 without him this season.
