The Pirates began their minor league awards week by naming 18-year-old outfielder Edward Florentino their top rookie-level player. He hit a combined .290 with 16 home runs, 23 doubles, 59 RBIs and 35 stolen bases in the Florida Complex League and at Low-A Bradenton.
20-year-old right-hander Yonleg Gaetano is the rookie-level pitcher of the year. Altoona’s Duce Gourson is the Omar Moreno Baserunner of the Year, and the High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers were named the top coaching staff.
More awards from the high minors are still to come.
