The Penguins’ grueling schedule took them east for the renewal of their in-state rivalry with the Flyers, and they came away with a point in a rugged shootout game. Paul Steigerwald has the recap.
The Penguins were without Sidney Crosby for the shootout after a battle broke out between both teams as the overtime period ended. Crosby, Ryan Shea, Parker Wotherspoon, and Noel Acciari were given misconduct penalties along with the Flyers’ Tyson Foerster, Owen Tippett and Trevor Zegras. Crosby was penalized for leaving the bench during the scuffle.
Coach Dan Muse says the Penguins faltered in the second period and it cost them.
Muse says his defensemen weren’t as sharp as they should have been.
The coach says his veteran team leaders, Crosby, Malkin, and Kris Letang, are showing the way for their younger teammates.
Former number one draft pick Owen Pickering was recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and took a regular shift on the third defensive pairing with Matt Dumba.
The Penguins play the Wild tomorrow night in Minnesota.
