Linebacker Payton Wilson says he is honored to be named interim special teams captain for the Steelers after the season-ending knee injury suffered by Miles Killebrew. The speedy Wilson is a starter on the defense and is only in his second season in the NFL, but he added the placekick blocking job to his duties on the kick and punt coverage and return teams.
With the Steelers in a two-game losing streak and set to play the 7-1 Colts, Wilson says the defense will need to be locked in on every down this Sunday.
Wilson says the Steelers have “Super Bowl-level talent” on defense, and they need to start showing it.
The Steelers are reportedly going to sign veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who played the first four of his eight NFL seasons with Aaron Rodgers at Green Bay. He’s been with the Chiefs, Bills, Saints, and 49ers since leaving the Packers. This season, he was in training camp with the Seahawks but was cut at the end of camp, signing with the 49ers and catching four passes in five games before being placed on injured reserve October 17th, then released the next day.
Coach Mike Tomlin will hold his weekly media appearance today, and update the injury status of safety DeShon Elliott, defensive lineman Daniel Ekuale, and guard Isaac Seumalo.
