Today is national drug takeback day and there are opportunities for people to safely dispose of prescription and over the counter drugs that are expired or no longer needed.
Efforts sponsored by the US Drug Enforcement Administration will be held today across Indiana County and the nation to get people to bring drugs in for proper disposal. Along with prescription and over-the-counter medicine, the event will also accept prescription patches and ointments, vitamins and pet medicines. At the last Drug Takeback Day in April, there were 4590 collection sites across the nation, and 310 tons of drugs were collected.
Drop boxes will be located at various places in Indiana County, including Diamond Drug on Philadelphia Street in Indiana and the IUP Police Department South 13th Street. In Blairsville, the drop-off, co-sponsored by Blairsville Police, Blairsville Support Group and the Blairsville Reality tour will be at the Police Department building on East Market Street. Naloxone will also be made available, and people will be able to register for the Reality tour.
