A bill concerning the permitting process in Pennsylvania was passed by the Senate this week.
Senate bill 6 will set timelines for state agencies to review permit applications, creates a permit tracking system, makes sure applicants receive timely, consistent answers, and will end needless delays in the process. It also requires regular performance reporting. The bill expands on the Streamlining Permits for Economic Expansion and Development, or SPEED program that required the state Department of Environmental Protection to implement a permit tracking system, extending it to all state agencies.
The bill passed by a 28-22 margin, with Senator Joe Pittman voting in favor of it. It will now head to the State House for further consideration.
