One person was killed in a collision last night in Cherryhill Township.
State police say that 43-year-old William Lee Houseknecht of Clymer was driving his SUV North on Route 403 near Starford Road at 5:35 PM when he crossed the center line while going through a slight left curve in the road and hit a pickup truck driven by 49-year-old Douglas Schaefer head-on. Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman, Jr. confirmed that Houseknecht was taken to IRMC where he later succumbed to his injuries. He also confirmed that the victim was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
Schaefer was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown while a child in the truck with him, identified only as a 9-year-old girl from Clymer, was sent to Children’s Hospital. Both had suspected moderate injuries.
Citizen’s Ambulance, State Police, and the Clymer, Cherryhill, Pine Township and Commodore fire departments assisted on scene.
