The Penguins are back home from their West Coast road trip after winning two out of three in California. The Pens shut out the winless San Jose Sharks, 3-0, on Saturday, with Sidney Crosby scoring the opening goal, Anthony Mantha netting the second goal, and Evgeni Malkin scoring the empty netter at the end. Tristan Jarry made 31 saves in the shutout.
Coach Dan Muse says the Penguins did good work out west.
Crosby’s goal was a redirect of a Kris Letang shot. Muse is learning how special Crosby is and how much he means to the Penguins.
Jarry recorded his 22nd career shutout, all with the Penguins, and tied Tom Barassao for second on the all-time franchise record. Marc-Andre Fleury has 44.
Jarry says the Penguins’ defensemen are keeping the front of the net clear of traffic, giving him a better view of the play.
Penguins fans, like Steelers fans, travel well, and Jarry says they were loud on Saturday in San Jose.
The Penguins host Vancouver tomorrow night, then visit two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Florida on Thursday before returning to Pittsburgh and Metro Division play on Saturday against Columbus.
