Conemaugh Township and West Shamokin both swept their semifinal matches and met for the Heritage Conference Volleyball Championship last night at the KCAC, and the Indians downed the Wolves 3-2 in the championship match.
Conemaugh Township whitewashed Purchase Line, 25-18, 25-13 in the first semifinal, and West Shamokin dispatched Northern Cambria, 25-19, 25-22.
In the final, the Indians strung together runs of 7 and 9 points in the first set, which they won, 25-12. West Shamokin battled back in the second set, 25-23, scoring six straight points to break a 13-13 tie, then holding off a Conemaugh Township’s rally. CT won the third set, 25-18, withstanding a 6-point run by the Wolves. West Shamokin took the fourth set by a 25-23 margin, and Conemaugh Township jumped to a dominant 12-2 lead in the decisive fifth set, fueled by a seven-point run on the way to a 15-5 win.
West Shamokin lost three games on the night, matching the total they’d lost in sixteen matches (a 48-3 margin) in their undefeated regular season.
