Indiana County Commissioners this (Wednesday) morning approved a contract for a roof replacement project at the old courthouse.
The roof is over 100 years old and needs replacing. Indiana County Office of Planning and Development Deputy Director Dave Morrow said that contractors G&W Roofing and Construction of Eighty-Four will be given a notice to proceed. When the project will start is unknown but Morrow did detail what will happen when it begins.
He hopes the roof will last another 100 years. Their bid for the slate roof and membrane replacement came to $686,000. It is being funded by Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant money.
In other business, the commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding with the historical society to loan three antique judge’s chairs from the county courthouse to the society for the next 99 years.

The chairs are believed to have come from the old courthouse, and were found by a county employee in the current courthouse.
