There were no surprises when the Penguins submitted their opening night roster to the NHL yesterday. The 23 players include teenage sensations Ben Kindel and Harrison Brunicke, and, of course, the “big three”, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang.
In addition to a number of new players, the Penguins will have a new coach for the first time in ten years when they take the ice to play the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Mike Sullivan will be on the Rangers’ bench and former Rangers assistant Dan Muse take over for the Penguins.
Muse says there will be plenty of emotions in the building tonight, but his focus is on the team he’s putting onto the ice.
Sidney Crosby says training camp went well and now it’s time to play real hockey.
Crosby, Malkin, and Letang will be starting their twentieth season together as Penguins, a pro sports record, but the captain said they won’t be thinking about that.
Letang says “the big three” enjoy playing hockey together.
The website, Puckpedia.com calculates the Penguins will start the year about $11.1 million under the salary cap. (https://www.puckpedia.com/team/pittsburgh-penguins)
The puck drops shortly after 8 o’clock. Penguins hockey returns to 92.5 FM U92 this season, with the airtime tonight at 7.
