GIRLS GOLF
At the District 6 AA girls golf championship yesterday at Windber Country Club, the story of the day was Madison Koshko of St. Joseph’s, who fired an amazing ten under par 62, twenty strokes better than the second place finisher, her sister Olivia. Koshko had five bridies and an eagle on the front 9, then added three more birdies on the back in a bogey-free round.
River Valley had five girls competing, including the Dunlap twins. Madigan was 9th, Maren was 10th, Teammate Alessia LaMantia qualified 18th, Ashley Pynos was 22nd, and Sara Bollinger was 28th.
River Valley finished second to Richland in the team tournament, but did not qualify for next week’s sub-regional in DuBois.
VOLLEYBALL
Purchase Line topped Marion Center 3-1, dropping the first game 25-23, then winning the next three, 25-23, 25023, and 25-12. For MC, Alivia Ruddock and Natalie Black both had 11 kills; Reagan Mantini had 8 kills and Kieler Elkin had 3. Emma Zamborsky had 23 assists. (PL did not provide stats).
PL won both the JV and 9th Grade games, both 2-0; MC won the 7th/8th Grade game, 2-1.
A big night on the court for Homer-Center, which shut out Penns Manor 3-0. Emma-Lee Rouser collected her 500th career kill and Ashlyn Yount her 500th career assist. Rouser had 17 kills, and Yount had 31 assists. The Wildcats’ Bella Tamburrino had 11 digs, and 16 serve receive passes. Taylor Rado had 9 kills. (PM did not provide stats).
Conemaugh Township topped Northern Cambria, 3-2, winning the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-22, losing the second two, 25-21 and 25-23, and winning the fifth set, 15-10. Notable Stats for NC: Ciara McCracken: 4 aces, 20 service points, 2 kills, 1 block, 26 assists, and 15 digs; Lainey Vasil: 9 kills, 1 block, and 18 digs; Emilee Depetro: 3 aces, 3 kills, and 14 digs; Sophie Fry: 26 digs; Julie Dumm: 1 kill, 3 blocks, and 3 block assists; Alyssa Depetro: 7 kills and 1 block; Aadyn Hoover: 3 aces and 7 kills; Maddie Work: 12 digs. Conemaugh Township won the JV match, 2-0, while NC won both the Junior High matches, both by 2-0 scores.
West Shamokin blanked River Valley, 3-0, by scores of 25-16, 25-15, and 25-13. West Shamokin also won the JV match.
GIRLS SOCCER
West Branch and Cambria Heights fought to an 0-0 tie, despite the Highlanders outshooting the Warriors 12-3. Heights goaltender Emma Gilbey turned away all three shots she faced while Alexa Prestash did the job for West Branch with 12 saves.
JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL
Indiana Junior High lost for the first time this season, 28-8 to Greensburg Salem. Ben Steve scored the Indiana touchdown on a 25-yard pass from Michael Carnovale, who then ran in for the two-point conversion. Indiana falls to 4-1.
