The Penguins have planned a big celebration for the twentieth season of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang next Thursday in the opener against the Islanders at PPG Paints Arena. There will be multiple “20-themed” giveaways throughout the game.
Crosby, Malkin and Letang are three of 35 players in the history of the NHL, NBA, MLB and NFL to play twenty seasons with a single team – and the only three to do so concurrently. They’re the highest-scoring trio of teammates with a single team in NHL history, combining for 3,703 regular-season points over the past 19 seasons.
Fans are urged to be in their seats by 7 PM for the ceremony.
The Penguins had a scheduled day off yesterday and tonight the team officially plays a preseason game in Buffalo. But the top players will be on the ice in Cranberry practicing, with less than a week to go before the season starts.
Tonight’s lineup includes the first game action for veteran Noel Acciari, whose been out injured since the start of camp. Also taking the ice will be veterans Danton Heinen, Blake Lizotte, Ryan Shea and Ryan Graves, and highly-ranked prospects Ville Koivunen, Phil Thomasino, Owen Pickering, and Harrison Brunicke. And top draft choice Ben Kindel will suit up, too.
