PA SUPREME COURT RULES VOTERS MUST BE NOTIFIED ON MAIL-IN BALLOT ERRORS

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court is ruling that voters must be notified if they make any mistakes on their mail-in ballots.

The Court ruled 4-3 recently that counties must make voters aware if there are any issues that could lead to their ballot getting thrown out, like a missing date or signature.  The decision was made in a lawsuit filed against Washington County last year after county officials announced it would not notify voters of any potentially disqualifying ballot errors.

The majority ruling said the Court must interpret the Election Code in a way that “favors the fundamental right to vote and enfranchises, rather than disenfranchises, the electorate.”
