Tristan Jarry stopped 21 of 22 shots and rookie first round draft choice Ben Kindel scored his first goal in a Penguins uniform as the Pens improved to 3-1-1 on the preseason with a 2-1 win in Detroit. Tommy Novak, who was acquired in a trade with Nashville last March, scored the game-winning goal on a deflection in the second period. Novak played just two games for the Penguins last season before suffering a fractured bone in his leg while blocking a shot.
Jarry became the first Penguins goalie to play a whole game.
Coach Dan Muse says the Penguins played the style of hockey he wants to see them play.
Kindel was the 11th overall choice in the NHL Draft this year, and has some observers predicting he will play his way onto the Penguins’ roster. He says he’s just happy to be able to work with the Penguins in training camp.
The Pens visit Buffalo tomorrow.
