PA SUPREME COURT STRIKES DOWN JOCK TAX IN PITTSBURGH

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court is striking down the so-called “Jock Tax” in the city of Pittsburgh.

In a ruling issued yesterday, the court deemed the tax unconstitutional, saying it violates the state uniformity clause. The city has been collecting three-percent of the income made by athletes and performers who play or put on shows at PNC Park, PPG Paints Arena, and Acrisure Stadium.

Deputy Mayor Jake Pawlak says, without the tax, the city will be losing about four-million dollars per year.
