Today is the second day of the 8th Street Initiative Charette and the workshops will end with a look at how the corridor that connects IUP to Downtown Indiana might look.
After sessions that are aimed towards property owners, real estate developers and high school students, the focus of the community workshop will move to 8th Street between Church and Philadelphia Streets for pop-up markets, live music, food and drink and temporary street improvements. This is the “tactical urbanism” portion of the charette, where attendees will see life-size mockups of public realm improvements. The goal will be to show how the corridor can evolve into a safe and active area.
That portion of 8th Street will be closed tonight to allow pedestrians to move safely in the work zone. The workshop will run from 4-7 tonight. It is open to the public.
