While we have received some rain over the last few days, it may not be enough to make a dent in the dry conditions the county is experiencing.
According to the most recent statistics from the National Integrated Drought Information System, 38.52 percent of Indiana County is in moderate drought status, with the rest of the county listed as “abnormally dry”. New statistics are expected to be released later in the week.
In the recent round of rainfall, two-tenths of an inch has been reported at the PA American Water Company’s Twolick Filter Plant, but that brings the total rainfall for the month to .65 inches, while the county normally is seeing 3.68 to 4.18 inches. AccuWeather Meteorologist Brandon Buckingham said that the most recent stats should show up in next week’s drought monitor report, but it may not be much of an impact.
He also predicts that the dry weather will return in the next few days, and that those who love to look at the fall leaf colors will see the color change sooner this year.
