Downtown Indiana, Indiana Borough and their partners are inviting the public to the upcoming 8th Street Design Charette on Thursday and Friday of next week, and there will be some entertainment and refreshments on the final day.
The Artist Hand and Philly Street Candle Bar will host the workshops on September 25th and 26th, but on Friday between 4-7, the 8th Street Corridor between Church and Philadelphia Streets will host live music, local food and drink and temporary street improvements that will showcase design ideas as part of the tactical urbanism portion of the two-day session. Attendees will see life-size mockups of public realm improvements ranging from benches and planters to chalk-painted crosswalks to a pop-up mini-market, with the goal of showing how the corridor could evolve into a safer and more active connection between the downtown district and IUP.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information on the charette, you can log on to www.indianaboro.com/8th-street-initiative
