Westmoreland County officials announced plans to furlough employees and scale back operations at county parks as the state budget impasse drags on in Harrisburg.
The commissioners said yesterday that the delay in state funding has left the county without enough cash flow to fully sustain operations. Chairman Sean Kertes emphasized that essential government services will continue, but some employees may face furloughs lasting up to a month.
Beginning next month, several facilities within the county’s eleven parks will close, and this year’s popular Halloween Hobgoblin Hikes have been cancelled.
The state budget was due on June 30, but Democrats and Republicans in the Senate remain at odds over the spending plan.
