Indiana County’s first responders were active yesterday with four calls for service.
The first call was for an automatic fire alarm activation on West Chestnut Street in Blairsville Borough. Blairsville fire department was joined by Blairsville police and Black Lick fire department at 4:20 AM.
A structure fire was reported on Old Route 119 North in White Township. Indiana, Homer City, Creekside, Clymer and Marion Center fire departments, along with the county RIT team and Citizen’s Ambulance were sent out at 12:25 PM. Indiana Fire Association officials say that a maintenance worker was burning weeds with a torch when the fire got away from them and spread to a tree, setting it on fire. The tree fire melted the siding on a wall of the church. No injuries were reported, and the fire was out by the time crews arrived. Indiana Fire Association officials said that they cancelled everyone else en route, but stayed on to soak the building down to prevent further spread and damage
At the same time, Homer City and Brush Valley fire departments were sent to East 9th Street in Center Township for a report of utility lines down.
A vehicle fire was also reported on Route 119 North in Rayne Township at 6:51 PM. Indiana fire association was dispatched at the time.
