The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has given preliminary approval for an air quality plan for the proposed nautral gas-fired power plant in Center Township.
The DEP said that based on prior findings, they will give the green light for the proposed project, but they are adding 53 conditions to make sure that the company remains compliant. Power generated at the over 3200-acre site will be used to power on-site AI data centers. The plant is also expected to emit 60% less greenhouse gasses per megawatt hour compared to the former coal-fired facility.
A meeting and public hearing concerning the air quality report will be held tomorrow night at the KCAC starting at 6:00. The meeting will be a back-and-forth dialogue between the public and the DEP and Homer City Redevelopment. That will run until there are no more questions or 7:30 PM. At that point, the hearing begins, and attendees will be able to provide testimony on the record related to the air quality draft plan.
