A physically demanding tribute to those who perished in the attacks of September 11th, 2001 will be held tonight.
Firefighters will be taking part tonight in the memorial stair climb at the Indiana County Public Safety Academy on Luciousboro Road. Emergency personnel and members of the community will simulate climbing the 110 stories that first responders made in New York City. That means participants will make 37 round trips of the staircase at the academy near Homer City.
Pete Yacavone is one of the organizers for the tribute event and he said that it’s open to the public, so they will get a chance to see what it was like for the first responders at the World Trade Center.
Blairsville Firefighter Ab Dettorre is one of the participants. He said that the firefighters’ sacrifice on that day is still felt today.
The stair climb begins at 6:30 tonight.
