The Pirates opened their series in Baltimore with an extra inning loss on a fair/foul call reversal last night. Joe Block has the story.
Manager Donnie Kelly lamented an opportunity lost after the Pirates forced extra innings.
Mike Burrows worked four innings and Braxton Ashcraft three for the Pirates, each giving up one run. Kelly liked the way Burrows and Ashcraft threw the ball.
Ashcraft gave up a home run to Jeremiah Jackson in the sixth inning, spoiling a good outing for the rookie.
It’s a Skenes Night for the second game of the series tonight. Paul Skenes [10-9, 1.98 ERA] faced O’s righty Tyler Wells [1-0, 3.60 ERA]. Airtime is 6:10, first pitch at 6:35 on WCCS.
Pirates’ prospect Brandon Bidois continued a remarkable stretch of hitless baseball for Indianapolis last night, working in relief in a 7-0 loss to Iowa. He worked two scoreless innings and extended his hitless streak to 64 batters. He hasn’t allowed a hit since July 29th, when he was pitching for Altoona.
