The Indiana County Commissioners this morning formalized their plea to Governor Josh Shapiro and the state legislature to pass the 2025-26 budget as soon as possible.
The resolution that was passed unanimously said that many counties have been forced to borrow money to continue operations due to the delays in the budget process and in some cases, counties are considering property tax increases in the 2026 budget. The motion urges the Governor and the Legislature make the spending plan the top priority and that they should not adjourn until it is in place.
As far as Indiana County’s fiscal health, Commissioners Chairman Mike Keith said that they have talked with the county offices and departments to see if there would be any trouble with the lack of a state budget.
The Commissioners also approved some motions in connection with the Jimmy Stewart Airport Hangar project, including an agreement with Delta Airport Consultants for construction administration services and a natural gas line extension with People’s Natural Gas company.
