Indiana High School was placed on a “soft lockdown” Friday afternoon after police received a report of someone walking around with a gun.
Indiana Borough Police were informed at 3:25 PM that the person was walking in the area of North 4th Street near Chestnut Street close to both the Junior and Senior High Schools. An immediate search of the area did not turn up anyone initially, but a 12-year-old boy was later found walking through the area with an airsoft pellet gun. The juvenile was seen by other students and an adult, while a second adult confirmed it was a plastic gun with an orange tip.
Police kept the school district notified of the investigation and talked with the juvenile’s guardians as well. They confirmed there was never a threat to any person or to either school, but out of an abundance of caution, the Senior High was placed on a “soft lockdown” and all outdoor practices were brought inside.
The investigation remains open.
