Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman Jr. has released the names of the two victims involved in separate fatal accidents in the county this weekend, and state police have filed the report on one of them.
The first accident happened at 3:47 Friday afternoon at the Resort Plaza Drive entrance to Route 22 West in Burrell Township. As one driver tried to turn left onto 22, an eastbound driver allegedly ran the red light, causing the collision.
A passenger in the back seat of the vehicle that was struck, 102-year-old Mary Lutz of Avonmore, was taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 5:01 PM. The cause and manner of death are still to be determined. One driver was flown to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh while another passenger was taken by ground transport to AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville.
State police have not yet released details of the accidents, nor the names of the others involved.
The second fatal accident happened at 11:50 PM Friday in the southbound lane of Old Route 119 near Johnson Road in White Township, in a darkened section of roadway near the crest of a small hill. State police say 30-year-old Bryan William Daniel Boyd of Homer City was lying on his back in the southbound lane of the road when he was run over by a 2002 Toyota Tacoma pickup, which then left the scene. Overman pronounced Boyd dead at the scene.
At about 12:55 AM, a 16-year-old Indiana boy called 911 to report that he was the driver of the pickup. State police contacted the boy and interviewed him, in the company of his parents. The coroner and the state police Troop A Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Specialist and Forensic Services Unit are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
As in the first accident, Overman said the cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy, while the manner of death is pending the completion of the state police investigation.
