Troopers have filed charges against the suspect in an officer-involved shooting incident that occurred early this morning in the City of Johnstown, Cambria County.
Christopher John Lehman, 32, of Johnstown, PA, was charged today with one count of persons not to possess, use, manufacture, control, sell or transfer firearms graded as a felony of the first degree, one count of firearms not to be carried without a license graded as a felony of the third degree, one count of criminal attempt – theft by unlawful taking or disposition graded as a felony of the third degree, one count of resisting arrest or other law enforcement graded as a misdemeanor of the second degree, and a summary count of criminal mischief.
Charges were filed at Magisterial District Court 47-1-01 before Magisterial District Judge Brian Subich and an arrest warrant was issued as Lehman remains hospitalized at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center.
On September 6, 2025 at approximately 3:45 a.m., officers with the City of Johnstown Police Department were dispatched to a theft-in-progress at the Skills Game Room, located within the 400 block of Broad Street in the City of Johnstown.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Lehman actively attempting to gain entry into a skills gaming machine. Lehman failed to comply with orders and attempted to flee the business, resulting in a responding officer utilizing his Taser in an attempt to gain compliance. The Taser deployment failed to gain Lehman’s compliance, resulting in Lehman fleeing out of the business and into a vacant lot to the east of the building.
As officers pursued Lehman, Lehman turned and produced a handgun. A pursuing officer discharged his firearm, striking Lehman. Lehman was then taken into custody and found to be in possession of a loaded Ruger 9mm handgun. No officers were injured.
Lehman does not possess a valid license to carry a concealed firearm and is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a previous criminal conviction.
In the course of the investigation, Lehman was found to have attempted to gain entry into a skills gaming machine, which contained $8,223, but did cause damage to the machine through the use of a grinder and a screwdriver.
Troopers also reviewed video surveillance, which included footage from the Skills Game Room, a nearby residence, and officers’ body worn cameras, which indicate Lehman attempting to break into a gaming machine, resisting arrest, and possessing a firearm.
