While it will not be as big as past years, there will be some activity in Downtown Indiana for the Northern Appalachian Folk Festival.
The event’s officials said in a post on their Facebook page that this year’s festival will be very minimal with the passing of Dr. Jim Dougherty in January. This weekend will feature a juried arts show at the Artist Hand gallery in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Rural Arts Alliance. On Saturday at 10 AM will be the Walk of Fame ceremony in front of Spaghetti Benders in Indiana. The two inductees this year are Dougherty and volunteer Beth Ann Krug. There will be a dove release at the end of the ceremony. The annual fiddle, mandolin and banjo contest will be held at the Indiana Theater from 11-3 with signups at 10:30. Saturday night, the festival will present Joe Greshecky and the Houserockers at 7:30 PM.
Sunday will be the annual Storytellers and Liars contest at the Indiana Theater at 2:00 PM.
With the exception of Saturday night’s concert, all events are free. Tickets for the concert can be purchased at The Indiana Theater’s website and at Zedd’s gifts on South 7th Street.
