The IUP Council of Trustees are meeting today, and the college of osteopathic medicine is on the proposed agenda.
The council will consider formally adopting the mission statement for the school which earned “candidate” status recently from the American Osteopathic Association’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation. The statement recognizes the school’s roots in a public institution and also states the goal is to increase the number of community physicians in rural and underserved areas of the state while creating a national model for rural healthcare.
The council will also consider approving naming a classroom at the Eberly College of Business in honor of the family of Norm Fornella, an IUP alum who received a bachelor of science degree in 1970 and serves on the Baker Construction Enterprises board of advisors and a part of the St. Clair Health board of directors.
The public portion of the meeting will be held at the KCAC at 5:00 PM.
