Mike Tomlin seems confident that Cam Heyward will suit up for the Steelers on Sunday against the New York Jets, but Heyward said simply “we’ll see” on his podcast. He’s involved in a contract dispute with the team.
At his weekly news conference, Tomlin said Heyward will play, and his lack of work through training camp will not be a problem.
Asked if he has any concerns that Aaron Rodgers will get caught up in the hype of playing against his former team, Tomlin said it’s not on his mind.
Tomlin says he hopes for an offense that is crisp, plays penalty-free ball, and protects the football.
The coach is eager to see how teams game-plan for DK Metcalf, who will make his Steelers debut on Sunday.
Tomlin says he’s not so much focused on who they play on Sunday, but on how they play.
Tomlin said first round draft choice Derrick Harmon will miss Sunday’s game with his knee injury. Linebacker Nick Herbig is questionable with a hamstring injury, but the coach said Herbig had a good practice yesterday.
The Steelers released wide receiver Robert Woods from the practice squad at his request, and signed former Carolina linebacker/special teamer Jon Rhattigan to the practice squad.
