A White Township man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a mineshaft in Torrance.
Westmoreland County Coroner Tim Carson said 61-year-old James F. Gershman of Ringneck Avenue was working in a mine shaft at the Heidelberg Materials site on Quarry Road when a large rock fell on his legs. He was pronounced dead at 5:47 PM yesterday.
The cause and manner of death are pending the results of an autopsy and toxicology tests. State police from the Kiski Barracks are investigating.
