Tween-focused accessory retailer Claire’s is preparing to close hundreds of stores just weeks after announcing its second bankruptcy filing in seven years. The company plans to shut down 235 Claire’s locations and 56 Icing stores, with the hardest-hit states including California, Illinois, New York, and Pennsylvania, including the Indiana Mall and the Johnstown Galleria locations.
According to court documents reviewed by AL.com, Claire’s has reached an agreement to sell part of its business operations to Ames Watson, a move that will temporarily pause liquidation during the bankruptcy process.
While the filing did not provide specific closure dates, the company confirmed that 785 Claire’s stores and 45 Icing locations will remain open.
