The Secret Service’s counter-sniper unit is struggling with “chronic understaffing,” according to a new report from the Department of Homeland Security’s Inspector General.
The review found the team is operating at 73 percent below the staffing level needed to fully carry out its mission. Investigators warned that the shortfall could undermine the agency’s ability to safeguard the nation’s top leaders.
The findings come just over a year after an assassination attempt on former President Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
