Despite a dry August, Indiana County isn’t officially in a drought.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has not issued any drought watches or warnings for the state. But the National Integrated Drought Information System is flagging parts of our region — from Indiana Borough and north — as “abnormally dry.”
Indiana saw just 2.19 inches of rain last month, measured at the Two Lick Filter Plant. That’s well below the usual August average, which ranges from about 3 to just over 4 inches, depending on the source.
So while it’s been a dry stretch, officials say we’re not in drought territory.
