The state Department of Environmental Protection has announced a public meeting and hearing for September 17th from 6 to 9 PM at the Kovalchick Complex for the Homer City Redevelopment property’s plan to build a natural gas-fired power plant at the former coal-fired Homer City Generating Station.
Located in Center and Black Lick townships, the new plant will power a group of AI-driven hyperscale data centers at a 3,200-acre campus.
Filed under the name “Homer City Generation, LP,” the plan is to build seven hydrogen-enabled gas-fired turbines, delivering up to 4.555 gigawatts of power. The company says the plant will reduce CO2 emissions by 60 to 65 percent per megawatt hour, compared to the output of the former coal-fueled plant.
The event on September 17th will be conducted in two parts: a meeting portion between 6 and 7 PM featuring back-and-forth dialogue between DEP and the company and attendees with questions and concerns specifically related to the Air Quality Draft Plan for the new plant; and a hearing portion immediately after for on-the-record testimony on the plan.
Those who wish to submit testimony during the hearing must pre-register.
