Altoona launched four home runs Saturday night to outscore Harrisburg, 9-2 and extend its lead over Richmond to two games in the chase for the second-half title in Southwest Division of the Eastern League. It guarantees that the Curve will enjoy at least a one-game lead over the Flying Squirrels when the two teams play each other at the start of a six-game series on Tuesday.
Esmerlyn Valdez his his fourth home run in the last three games, his 26th of the season playing for Greensboro and Altoona, the most in the Pirates’ minor league system. Nick Cimillo his his 17th homer of the season, and Tres Gonzalez hit his first. It was Gonzalez’s first home run since August 31, 2023, when he played for Greensboro.
Starter Dominic Perachi tossed six scoreless innings, striking out three and giving up two hits and a walk. Valentin Linarz threw two scoreless innings.
The series concludes today in Harrisburg, with Wilber Dotel taking the mound for the Curve.
