Homer-Center has emerged as a surprise front-runner two weeks into the Heritage Conference football following a thrilling 23-15 comeback victory against United Valley Friday night at Memorial Field in Homer City.
Predicted in the Renda Media preseason coaches poll to finish in the bottom half of the conference, Homer-Center has improved to 2-0, along with Marion Center, Cambria Heights and Conemaugh Township. Mark Bertig had the call on WCCS and Renda Digital TV.
Cambria Heights upset River Valley convincingly, 35-7. Jeff Cribbs had the call on Cat Country.
Marion Center leads the conference in scoring after routing Portage, 42-20. The Stingers have scored 87 points in their first two wins. Conemaugh Township blanked West Shamokin, 34-0.
Northern Cambria and Purchase Line were scoreless at halftime, but Northern Cambria scored two unanswered touchdowns in the second half to win, 14-0. Todd had the call on U92.5.
After getting shut out by River Valley last week, Penns Manor came back with a vengeance to clobber Conemaugh Valley, 55-6.
