A man has been sentenced for shooting a police officer during a high-speed chase in Westmoreland County.
The incident occurred in November 2023, when 40-year-old Bruce Alvarado led police on a 30-mile pursuit in a stolen vehicle. The chase began in Pitcairn and ended in Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County. During the pursuit, Alvarado rammed a police cruiser and then opened fire, hitting a Monroeville officer in the arm and leg.
Alvarado has now been sentenced to at least 40 years in prison after being convicted on multiple charges, including attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and aggravated assault.
