A Kittanning woman was ordered yesterday to spend up to three years in prison for intentionally setting fire to her rented home in 2023.
Pennsylvania’s Attorney General David Sunday announced that 65-year-old Emmajean Mowery pleaded guilty to two counts of arson and one count of insurance fraud in connection with the fire in Rayburn Township. She had increased her insurance policy weeks before she set the fire and told the insurance company that someone else in the home started it accidentally. Investigators determined she set the fire to get a payout for a previous court-ordered restitution for burning a previous home.
Sunday said that not only did Mowery tried to defraud an insurance company, but put emergency responders, neighbors and other occupants at the home in danger.
Along with he prison time, she was ordered to pay over $110,000 in restitution.
