For the third time this summer, mosquitoes in Butler County have tested positive for West Nile virus.
The first cases were detected last month in Franklin Township, followed by additional positive samples earlier this month in Zelienople. Now, more mosquitoes in Franklin Township have again tested positive. The virus can cause infections that may lead to brain inflammation.
Although no human cases have been reported, officials warn the findings serve as a reminder that human infections remain possible in the region.
