The Steelers will keep four quarterbacks , at least for now, postponing a decision on the futures of Skylar Thompson and Will Howard. Thompson had an excellent training camp and preseason while Howard suffered a fractured hand and missed most of camp.
Veteran cornerback Corey Trice Jr. was placed on short-term injured reserve.
To get down to the 53-man limit yesterday, the Steelers cut cornerback Beanie Bishop and defensive end/linebacker DeMarvin Leal, and cornerback James Pierre, all of whom were on the team last year, along with free agent wide receiver Robert Woods, and a host of veteran and rookie free agents.
All of this year’s draft choices made the team, although two of them, Howard and cornerback Donte Kent, could be placed on injured reserve. The Steelers will likely sign some of their released players to the practice squad today.
