The Pittsburgh Penguins Hall of Fame has twenty members, but none have been added since 2013. The team will correct that oversight over the next three years, inducting ten players and contributors. A committee of 21 decided on the honorees in what the team is calling a “re-launch” of the Hall, which will also have a dedicated space in the concourse of PPG Paints Arena.
Penguins players Jaromir Jagr, Ron Francis, Tom Barrasso, Kevin Stevens, Chris Kunitz, and Larry Murphy will be joined in the Hall of Fame by “builders” Scotty Bowman, Eddie Johnston, Jim Rutherford, and Ray Shero. All but Shero are still living. The former general manager, who built the team that lost in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2008 and won the Cup the following year passed away at age 62 in April.
The Penguins have not yet announced who will be in the first group of inductees this season. That class will be honored in a ceremony before the Pens’ game against Columbus on October 25th.
