At Wednesday’s meeting, the Indiana County Commissioners expressed some concern with the lack of a state budget.
The budget is now nine weeks overdue and with the State House’s next session scheduled for September 8th and the Senate not due back until September 22nd, many organizations are affected by the lack of funds available and counties do not know how much will come in. Commissioner Sherene Hess said that many agencies, businesses and people will be affected by the delay, and the solution of borrowing money until the state funds start coming will still give the county problems.
Hess said that the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania, and the Indiana County Commissioners are urging the legislature and Governor Josh Shapiro get back to work on passing a budget as soon as possible.
In other business, the commissioners approved two bond series to borrow up to $7.5 million for the corporate hangar projects at the Jimmy Stewart Airport. One series will be to provide cash flow for expenses that will be covered by reimbursement from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant, and the other series is a long-term loan for the county’s local share. Both bond series will go through S&T Bank as they had the best combined deal for both bond issues.
