Indiana County’s unemployment rate went up slightly in July.
The state Department of Labor and Industry reported this morning that the county’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate increased by a tenth of a percentage point to 4.7 percent. That is three-tenths of a point higher than last year at this time. Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate is 4.0 percent while the federal rate is 4.2.
Compared to neighboring counties, Indiana’s rate is the highest. Westmoreland county’s rate is 3.9 percent for July. Clearfield County checks in at 4.4. Armstrong and Jefferson ‘s rates are 4.5 percent each, and Cambria County’s rate is 4.6.
The highest unemployment rate in the state is Cameron County at 5.6, while the lowest is Montour with 2.8.
