The newly repainted steeple of Saint Mary, Mother of God Church in Freeport received a special blessing on High Street yesterday morning.
Bishop Larry Kulick of the Diocese of Greensburg ascended in a boom lift to bless the steeple, accompanied by the church’s pastor, Reverend Rick Kosisko. The bishop sprinkled holy water on the spire as part of the ceremony. The parish recently had its steeple repainted and a gold cross imported from Europe installed.
Saint Mary parish, located at 608 High St. in Freeport and originally established in 1826, will mark its 200th anniversary next year with a series of monthly events.
