UPDATE: For the second time in as many days, Cherryhill Township firefighters were sent out in the early morning hours for a structure fire.
This morning’s fire was at a home at 10 South Harmony Road near 4C’s Ice Cream stand. Cherryhill, Clymer, Commodore, Indiana and Pine Township firefighters were sent out at 12:34 this morning. Cherryhill Fire Chief Jody Rainey said the building was a vacant home that was converted to a duplex. The front end of the building was fully engulfed by the time crews arrived, and Rainey said there was a concern with water supplies as they would have needed to stretch their supply hose across Route 422.
State Police fire marshals are investigating this fire, which is the third in the area in the last month. Sunday’s fire at the Pikes Peak Nursery two-story storage building along Route 422 was considered an arson, as was the fire on July 18th at the kitchen and social hall building on the Eastern Orthodox Church Complex. The Cherryhill Township Fire Department is offering a $5000 reward for any information that leads authorities to whomever set the fires. Rainey said any small piece of information is important in this investigation.
Anyone with information on any of the fires in question is asked to call the state police barracks at 724-357-1960.
