Monday night, the Indiana School Board was notified by Board President Walter Schroth that the issue of property taxes will be brought before the board soon.
Schroth said that back in 2020, he was on the PSBA Property Tax Reform Committee and they were in the midst of discussions to change the way schools in Pennsylvania were funded by getting away from property taxes when the Covid-19 pandemic hit. His concern is that there is a point where the total amount of taxes on a property will negatively impact a property value, and that will affect the amount of money the district will receive. He wants to have some discussion before the board develops their position paper on the topic.
The discussion will start at the Audit and Finance Committee before it returns to the full board.
Last night was the final meeting of board member Dr. Sue Rieg, a former educator in the district and IUP. She is resigning effective next week as she is moving out of the district. Her last official day as a board member is August 19th.
