State Public Utility Commission Chairman Stephen DeFrank has introduced a resolution before the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners urging for the adoption of natural gas energy efficiency programs for commercial and industrial users.
DeFrank’s resolution was approved last week by the organization’s board of directors. It advocates for using “every tool in the toolbox to improve efficiency, better integrate our gas and electric systems, and control long-term energy costs for consumers and businesses alike.”
The demand for natural gas energy is rapidly accelerating due to operations such as the Homer City Redevelopment project, where the former Homer City Generating Station is being replaced by the nation’s largest natural gas-fueled power plant. The plant will power a more than 3,200-acre data center campus.
