Latrobe is expected to be busy this afternoon and evening with activities surrounding Steelers Training Camp.
There’s no practice this afternoon as the team will head to Latrobe’s Memorial Stadium for the annual “Friday Night Lights” practice. Activities will also be on the schedule from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the town’s Legion Keener Park, with Memorial Stadium opening to the public at 5:00. Because of the crowds, and because of the recent shooting at the NFL’s offices in New York City, there will be an increased police presence. Officials say there will be a lot of uniformed officers in attendance, along with K-9 officers and drones. They are also asking people to treat attendance at tonight’s practice as if they were going to an actual NFL game as far as security goes, so allow some extra time to get to the stadium tonight.
As part of the preparations, the roads around the stadium will close at 5:00 PM. That means many of those attending will have to park in town and walk to the stadium, unless they have a handicap placard. Parking in town will be free, but people are advised to stay out of residential areas.
